Report from the London Premiere of Jacek Miedlar’s Film “Neighbours”

Yesterday (7th September 2024), in the Hayes district of London, a remarkable event took place – the premiere of the documentary “Neighbours” directed by Jacek Miedlar, organised by the Polish Air Force Squadrons and MIR.tv. The film, depicting one of the most tragic events in Polish history, attracted numerous guests, including Polish community activists and history enthusiasts from Poland and Europe.

As the Executive Director of Guardians of Polish & Christian Heritage, I had the honour of addressing the audience during the event. My speech focused on the historical significance of the film and the values it brings to the Polish and European historical memory.

The Importance of the Film for National Memory

The film “Neighbours” poignantly reminds us of the genocide committed by Ukrainian nationalists against Poles during World War II, especially in Volhynia. These tragic events, long overlooked or uncomfortable for some circles, are now brought back into the public consciousness thanks to productions like “Neighbours”. I spoke of our duty to restore the memory of those victims, not to reopen old wounds, but to ensure that by learning from history, we prevent similar atrocities from happening again. Remembering the past is essential to protect the future of our nations.

History as a Warning for the Present

During my speech, I highlighted the relevance of the film’s message today. The tragic events of the past teach us how dangerous hatred, divisions, and extreme nationalism can be, leading to dehumanisation and cruelty. Today’s challenges – including the influx of culturally foreign immigrants to Poland and attacks on Christian values – are modern threats we must recognise and counter. Organisations like Guardians of Polish & Christian Heritage have a responsibility to stand for truth, culture, and Christian and national morality.

The Mission Guardians of Polish & Christian Heritage

In my speech, I also emphasised the role of our Organisation, whose main goal is to protect Polish and Christian heritage. Our task is not only to preserve the memory of tragedies such as the Volhynia massacre but also to defend Christian values in the face of modern threats, such as attempts at Islamisation or the erosion of Christian traditions by ideologies that conflict with our culture and morality. The Guardians, in accordance with the provisions of our statute, strive to preserve these values for future generations.

Closing Remarks and Thanks

At the end of my speech, I extended heartfelt thanks to the organisers of this extraordinary event – the Polish Air Force Squadrons and MIR.tv. I also expressed my gratitude to all the guests who, by their presence, showed that the memory of Volhynia and the Polish victims of World War II will not be forgotten.

Reflecting on tragic history together gives us the strength to build a better future – not only for Poles but for all nations that cherish truth and human dignity.

Events like this remind us of the importance of nurturing our national and Christian identity. We cannot agree to foreign influences that seek to undermine the foundations of our civilisation. It is we – Poles and Christians – who are responsible for defending our faith, traditions, and morality.
